Hi Reader,

🌸 Pik here!

Wow, you all blew me away!

The Build a Fundable Brand™ Bootcamp is already full, exceeding all my expectations.

I initially hoped for 10 participants, but guess what? We’re at a whopping 29 so far!

Thanks for your trust; I’ll keep you updated on our progress.

Don’t Just Brand—Brand Consistently!

[Read time: 3 mins]

CLIENT A: Can you change the colors for this cover? We’re always using the same colors, it’s getting boring.

CLIENT B: Our brand is all over the place, we don’t know what went wrong! We have the brand style guide, logo, colors and fonts, it still doesn’t work…

If you’re Client A, kudos! Your “boring” color scheme is actually a win in brand consistency.

For Client B, you’re not alone.

The good news? Today’s tips are made for you.

Misconceptions about Brand Consistency

Brand consistency is about stifling creativity

Actually, it enhances your brand by offering a consistent experience.

This is a small business or startup issue

Not true! Even my corporate clients with dedicated marketing and in-house creative teams face challenges in maintaining a consistent brand.

Consistency requires ongoing attention for companies large and small.

Consistency means never evolves

The truth is, brands evolve. The key is to ensure that any adjustments you make stay true to your foundational brand mission and vision.

Your Roadmap to Brand Consistency

STEP 1: Create a Streamlined Brand Style Guide

Ditch the 40-page style guides.

A brief, straightforward 2-3 page guide is often all you need to keep everyone on the same page.

Your guide should include:

1. Logo Guidelines: Your logo is your brand’s signature. Make sure to document how it should be used.

  • 2 Basic lockups: Logo with the full company name and the logomark. [Photo 1]
  • 3 Logo colors: Full color, black (on a light background), and white (on a dark background). [Photo 2]

2. Color Palette: Stick with 2-3 core colors. You don’t need a secondary color palette — let’s keep it simple!

  • Tip: Make sure your primary colors have enough contrast to be visually distinct and accessible.

3. Fonts: Less is more. One main font for headers and one for body text should suffice.

  • Experiment with weights (bold, regular, light) to create visual interest. [Photo 3]
  • Tip: Use Google Fonts for accessibility. You want your font to be available on as many platforms as possible.
💝 BONUS: I made a simple, handy-dandy brand style guide template just for you (our Angel Email subscribers)! Get it right HERE.

STEP 2: Implement Quality Control

Appoint a “brand guardian” responsible for reviewing ALL public-facing materials to confirm they align with your brand’s visual identity.

  • If you’re a smaller startup, the role could fall on you, your go-to designer, or your marketing lead.
  • For bigger enterprises, a specialized brand manager usually takes on this responsibility.
FUN FACT: A study from Lucidpress shows that consistent branding can increase revenue by up to 33%.

STEP 3: Educate Your Team

A consistent brand is a team effort.

Make sure everyone understands your brand guidelines.

It doesn’t have to be a tedious process — a simple training video during onboarding can do wonders.

STEP 4: Utilize Branded Templates

Streamline the creation process and maintain brand cohesion with pre-made templates for different types of content.

  • TIP: Whenever you commission a new design piece, ask for a reusable template version too. Store these in an easily accessible folder.

Consistency Makes Your Brand Memorable

Let’s circle back to Client A, who wanted to jazz things up.

While the urge to shake things up is natural, consistency is key.

Remember, your audience is just beginning to associate those colors, fonts, and styles with your brand.

Stick with what works, and that “boring” will transform into trust.

🌸 See you next week~

Peace,
Pik

Hi Reader, 🌸 Pik here! Me? A startup mentor? If you told me 10 years ago I’d be mentoring startup founders…Giving branding workshops…Speaking on panels… …I probably would’ve laughed and said,“I’m just a graphic designer.” Back then, my happy place was Illustrator. Quiet. Behind-the-scenes.I didn’t see myself as a “mentor.” I didn’t think I had the voice for it. But now?Apparently I mentor startups across three global programs.IEEE, FemHealth Insights, and FemTech Lab.I give talks. I coach. I...

Hi Reader, 🌸 Pik here! Not too long ago, I was in a small business group, casually explaining what I do. I said I was building a membership site for women entrepreneurs, and suddenly, I got flooded with questions: “Which should I build first: my personal brand or business brand?”“Do I have to show my face on social media?”“What if I want to sell the business later?” So this month, we tackled the branding question everyone’s asking but secretly confused by: Personal Brand or Business Brand,...

Hi Reader, 🌸 Pik here! A client asked us to design a new website. We said, “Great! Can you share your brand assets?” They sent… a single JPEG file. That’s it. No color palette. No brand guide. Not even a transparent background. Just one fuzzy logo with a white box around it.You’ve probably been there too, either receiving it or sending it 😅 Why it matters A logo alone isn’t a brand. It’s just the tip of the iceberg. When you don’t have a clear system (fonts, colors, rules) it shows up in...
